The Day Between: Grief, Waiting, and Hope

The inversion of the crown of thorns and the crown, which symbolizes Jesus' suffering and trials, symbolizes the death of the Savior and the resurrected King, background for Passion Week.

Today is the day between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday. This day often gets lost in the Christian celebration of Easter.

We know Jesus’ death was not the end of the story. But for Jesus’ friends and disciples, they didn’t yet witness the resurrection. In this in-between day, their hearts must have been filled with questioning and grief. I imagine God felt silent and even absent.

I have lived through my own experiences with suffering and loss. Disappointment and anxiety have been part of my journey as I have been in God’s waiting room far longer than I thought I could handle. Yet I have found surprising hope in meditating on the day that Jesus was in the tomb.

Join me today as I share an insight from God’s Word about “the longest Sabbath”. Here we can find hope that in our greatest losses, God often is preparing to do something miraculous and beautiful. We just may not see it yet.
