Psalm 24 for 2024 and Beyond

Psalm 24 has been a special passage for me for a long time. This psalm talks about a generation that seeks the face of God and stands in His presence, completely consecrated to Him. When I was a new believer in my early twenties, I remember sticking this passage on my wall because it resonated—I felt like God was calling me to be a part of this generation. 20+ years later, I still do!

Do you remember those days of your “first love”, when your relationship with Jesus was new? I remember those early days where friends and I would get together and we would end up worshipping, sometimes for hours. We just couldn’t stop as we were caught up in God’s presence. There was nothing sweeter than feeling close to Jesus like this, and I wanted to go anywhere and do anything that He asked of me. I believe God wants to restore this kind of passion to our hearts again.

Over a year ago now, students gathered together for chapel at Asbury College and they experienced the same thing. They couldn’t stop worshipping Jesus either, and they went on for weeks. God came close and became real to the world as many traveled to receive a touch from God at Asbury. I believe this is only the beginning of what God wants do, and He certainly has moved a lot in the hearts of people far and wide in 2023, not only in the US1, but around the world2.

We are definitely living in a time where darkness in increasing. The Bible says that this will happen as we get closer to the return of Christ to the earth.  But I believe that Psalm 24 gives hope us hope that just when it seems like things can’t get any worse, somehow there will be people in the middle of everything going on that love God in a way like no other generation has. I believe God’s invitation to us in this hour is to be a part of what David envisioned when he wrote Psalm 24.
